How Do I Know If I Am Called Of God?
|
The Two Callings Of God:
- The Call of Excellence
Has God called me to do specific things?
Ecclesiastes 11:9 “Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.
God gives us the freedom to do what we think is best, but we will answer for everything we do.
- The Call of Obedience to a Specific Call
Jeremiah 1:4-5 “Then the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.”
Sometimes God may call us to fulfill a very specific ministry. When that happens, he will make sure that we know it.
I Corinthians 12:4-7 “Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.”
II Timothy 4:5 “for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.” God has given each of us a special ministry that he wants us to perform in the church to build up the body and bring glory to his name.
How Do I Know What My Calling Is?
Psalm 119:105 “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
The first step in knowing our calling is to get to know God intimately through his word and let him guide us through it in everything.
Daniel 1:17 “As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.
God has given each of us special aptitudes and abilities. These help us to see the kinds of things that we should be doing.
Acts 20:24 “But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.”
When God gives us a specific calling, it fills our thoughts and energies, so that we pursue it wholeheartedly.
Romans 12:2 “And be ye not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
A Promise from God:
I Thessalonians 5:23-24 “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.” *
